These Roman Silver Double Denarii are certified to be from the 3rd Century AD making them almost 1,800 years old! The Double Denarius is well known for its history lesson on inflation of currency even in ancient times! As time went on, the Romans put more and more copper into their silver coins to bring down the cost of production. This cutting of costs was caused by the decline of the Empire. Over time, the once pure silver denarius, turned into an almost pure copper "Double Denarius." They tried to "compensate" for this by making the coins larger, but it only fooled the public for so long. However, these particular Double Denarii, also called Antoninianii, are quite rare as they have a very high concentration of silver, which can be told by the date they were minted and by their physical appearance. Believe it or not, coins from the 4th century look almost completely bronze. Each of these ancient Roman Silver coins is certified by NGC to be authentic and genuine.
