Fengtien. Kuang-hsü Dollar CD 1903 XF45 NGC, Fengtien Arsenal mint, KM-Y92.1, L&M-482, Kann-251b. Variety with the Manchu characters in the center of the obverse (reverse as holdered) reversed to read "Boo-Fung." A certainly notable and scarce provincial issue, this piece is distinguished by its whimsical dragon motif, and its light mottled tone. Struck following a four-year hiatus in production, it represents the first emission from the Fengtien Mint after the cessation of coinage in 1899. The type also marks the mint's return to the Kuping mace/candareen weight standard, reinstating the specification originally employed in its inaugural 1897 coinage.
