Hupeh. Kuang-hsü "Small Characters" Tael Year 30 (1904) UNC Details (Cleaned) PCGS, Wuchang mint, KM-Y128.2, L&M-180, Kann-933, WS-0878. Small characters variety. An always pursued, single-year denomination, introduced as part of a projected coinage reform based on the traditional system of Chinese weights, rather than the relatively recently introduced decimalized Dollar system. However, the type was ultimately met with opposition due to the difficulty and cumbersomeness of converting between the two different monetary units. While muted surfaces are perhaps indicative of an earlier cleaning, this example still maintains the majority of its Mint State appeal and warrants additional consideration.
