North Carolina December, 1771 £2 PCGS Apparent Fine 15. The Act of December 1771 authorized £60,000 in Debenture Bills. This £2 note features a small vignette of a dove carrying an olive branch in its beak with the motto PAX REDDITA (Peace restored) MAY 1771. This refers to Battle of Alamance which on May 16, 1771, ended a five year uprising by the so-called Regulators who were protesting corruption and excessive taxation in North Carolina. PCGS mentions edge splits and repairs. An interesting accumulation of annotations are seen on the back of the note inviting further research. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
