Japan Bank of Japan 5 Yen ND (1886) Pick 23 PMG About Uncirculated 55. There is more than meets the eye in the design of this scarce denomination. This Bank of Japan 5 Yen note belongs to the Daikokuten Issues, a series known for their vignette of the Japanese deity. Often described as the Japanese god of wealth, Daikokuten (???), also known as Daikoku, is mostly featured on the front design of the series, whereas the 5 Yen design placed the vignette of Daikokuten onto the back, in dark blue and encircled in a decorative frame. He is one of two Seven Lucky Gods (???) to appear on Japanese currency. Last offered through Heritage in 2020, this example is in a phenomenal grade, tied with just one other note for the position of "top pop" in the PMG Population Report at time of cataloging.
