Japan Bank of Japan 100 Yen (1900-1913) Pick 33s Specimen PMG Extremely Fine 40. The highest denomination in the Convertible Gold Note Issue, this design represents a transformative period of Japanese economic history. At the turn of the century, international trade increased exponentially following the end of the Sakoku isolation policy in the late nineteenth century, a shift reflected in the use of Western script on the back of this note. The front features a vignette of the Tanzan Shrine in Sakurai, an iconic Shinto shrine built by the oldest son of Fujiwara no Kamatari, to whom the shrine is dedicated and who is pictured on the left. At the time of cataloging, there is only one note recorded in a higher grade in the PMG Population Report for this variety. "Good Embossing" is mentioned on the holder.
