A scarce issue due the low mintage of only 21,760 coins, mint state examples remain elusive, especially when comparing this date to others. There are two die varieties known, both of which are roughly the same rarity. Surfaces are deeply toned and coated with a thick and hazy grey patina. Luster is subdued by the patina, however, it is seen on the reverse when rotated under a light. The strike is strong and the coin is quite appealing in direct light. PCGS has only graded five finer making this a lovely registry set offering! Visit www.davidlawrence.com for more information on this coin and 7000+ more coins.
