1802 1C S-238, B-11, R.4, XF40 PCGS. This example is likely about the tenth best of the variety. Over the past quarter century, the top two dozen examples of the variety have appeared for public auction sale about once per year. Trivial rim bruises are noted along the right obverse border of this nicely detailed example that features hard rose and steel-brown surfaces. The weak areas, especially those at the lower part of the reverse, are typical of the variety. The right side of the reverse has bluish-olive toning. Die clashing is noted at the upper obverse and lower reverse. Ex: Stack's Bowers (11/2021), lot 1128. HID06601242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
