1878 8TF $1 Diagonal In 8, VAM-17, MS66+ NGC. Sharply detailed design elements and impeccably preserved lustrous surfaces create outstanding eye appeal. According to the 2026 Guide Book, the Philadelphia Mint struck just 749,500 business-strike Morgan dollars with the 8 Tail Feathers reverse before switching over to the 7 Tail Feathers motif later in 1878. The issue is quite scarce at the MS66 level, and finer coins are virtually unobtainable. NGC Census: 55 in 66 (5 in 66+, 6 in 66 S), 1 finer (4/26).
