"Appalachicola", FL- Bank of West Florida $5 Nov. 3, 1832 G30 Benice 3 PMG Very Fine 30. The bank was chartered in 1829 and in 1832 was authorized to move to Apalachicola and keep an agency in Marianna. The bank closed its doors in 1837 and a brief attempt to revive it in 1838 failed, with the bank's notes quoted at 5¢ on the dollar. The bank permanently closed its doors in 1842. This $5 design features Justice or perhaps Commerce standing with a shield at center. A vignette of Proserpina standing by a column is at left and a round vignette of two men inspecting livestock is at right. There is a small vignette of a Native American in a canoe at bottom center. The location of the bank was misspelled by Rawdon, Wright Hatch & Co. as "Appalachicola" with two "p"s on all of the bank's initial issues. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
