An extremely popular issue, 1850 is the first collectible year of the Liberty double eagle type (the unique 1849 Proof at the Smithsonian is a pattern). A large product of more than 1.1 million pieces was struck and the vast majority entered circulation. Understandably few examples were saved by contemporary collectors as $20 was too much money for the average person to set aside. As a result, this issue is elusive in Mint State. A wonderful slider with strong details remaining and only grade-defining chatter/wear. Both sides boast a partially prooflike effect to the luster, making for an exciting piece to appreciate in hand.
