Philip II "San Francisco" Cob 8 Reales ND (1586-1589) P-A XF Details (Sea Salvaged) NGC, Potosi mint, Cal-674. 19.05gm. Presented with the less common "A" assayer mark. Accompanied by COA. Salvaged from the "San Francisco" (sunk in ca. 1650 off the coast of Santiago in Cape Verde Islands, West of Africa). The Saõ Francisco wreck is difficult to access, thus little is known of it. The wreck site is off the coast of Santiago in the Cape Verde Islands, and evidence points to it being a Spanish slave trade ship from the late 1600s. Silver coins, mostly Spanish, and various artifacts of everyday ship life have been found in the rocky outcroppings where the wreckage was found.
