Leopold I gold Proof "Royal Wedding" 100 Francs 1853 PR62 Cameo PCGS, Brussels mint, KM-XM3.1, Fr-409, Dupriez-538 (R1). Hyphen between dates variety. Mintage: 482. By L. Wiener. Struck to commemorate the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Brabant. A historic single-year type produced for and distributed at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Brabant. More often this type is witnessed below the Mint State tier and not in Proof format, with Specimen or Proof strikings, as seen here, sipping rarified air amongst their peers. Here, a wheat-gold, watery flash is pervasive in hand, with just a minimal swath of handling marks capping the assigned grade. A small region of scarlet tone on the upper reverse does much for personality against the otherwise untoned surfaces.
