João V gold 20000 Reis (Dobrão) 1725-M MS62 NGC, Minas Gerais mint, KM117, LMB-249. A date prone to rusted dies, this example appears to have been struck before they weathered as the surfaces retain smoothness and the strike remains whole. Minimally toned with cartwheeling shades, an ideal piece for a collector seeking a specimen from this large gold type, one of the largest to have ever entered circulation. Struck in the province of Vila Rica, where the Portuguese extracted most of the Brazilian gold, this short-lived issue departed from the duodecimal system that included the 12,800 Réis coin as its largest denomination. Believed to be one of, if not the largest gold type ever struck for circulation purposes, it's undoubtedly an imposing piece. Ex.
