1794 1C Head of 1794, Ornate Head, S-28, B-10, R.2, AU55 PCGS. Breen Die State VI, Heck Die State 7. This Choice AU 1794 Liberty Cap large cent is known as the Ornate Head, a name that Dr. Edward Maris gave to the variety in the 19th century. A secondary name is the Single Leaf since there is just one leaf outside the right branch of the wreath below the letter I in AMERICA. The reverse die is shared with Sheldon-27. On all other reverse dies, there are two leaves at that location. This piece is sharply struck with pleasing chocolate-brown surfaces and delicate golden overtones.
