1794 1C Head of 1794, Bent Lock, S-22, B-6, R.1, MS62 Brown PCGS. CAC. Ex: Naftzger-Reynolds. Breen Die State VII, Heck Die State 7. This is the State 7 plate coin in Chuck Heck’s Die States of 1794 United States Large Cents (2022). Both sides have heavy flow lines with clash marks over Liberty’s head and prominent mounds on the reverse. A fine die crack extends from the border through the right upright of the N in UNITED, appearing in this latest die state. The sixth hair lock from the bottom is bent sharply downward and that feature, with the reverse mounds of later states, identifies the variety. Both features are clear on this example that is a Noyes (1991) plate coin. Bill Noyes and Del Bland each record in a tie for the finest S-22 cent while PCGS has certified four numerically finer submissions. The fully lustrous surfaces of this virtually flawless cent exhibit pleasing golden-brown color faded from mint red. This CAC-approved coin features exceptional eye appeal. Ex: Henry C.
