1796 1C Liberty Cap, S-89, B-10, R.3, AU58 PCGS. CAC. Breen Die State I. No clash marks are evident on either side of this example. This die combination, while not a rarity, is infrequently encountered in higher grades. The obverse shows a trivial rim nick at 7:30 with other small marks on each side including areas of green patina outside the left branch of the wreath. Both sides display medium brown surfaces with good eye appeal. Following strict EAC grading standards, the finest recorded examples grade VF30. Although untraced in past provenance lists, this example is likely high in the condition census and it is the sole finest example PCGS-attributed S-89 cent. PCGS Population for all 1796 Liberty Cap varieties: 15 in 58 (2 in 58+), 28 finer (7/26). HID06601242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
