1878 $2 1/2 JD-2, Low R.7, PR65 Cameo NGC. Ex: Reed. This piece was part of the prestigious Bryon Reed sale, who was deservedly described within the original 1996 catalog as a "real pioneer." The piece within the myriad of other immaculate coins within the sale was afforded a scant description. {blockquote}"Tiny obverse spot at two o'clock, some faint hairlines, Proof rich orange toning, one of only twenty proofs coined." {/blockquote} As aptly described within the previous catalog, the coin displays rich orange-gold luster with some richer notes within the fields. The strike is pristine with exceptional details around the hair and the feathering. While free from any detracting marks, a small hairline is present under the olive branch talon, and a lintmark runs over Liberty's eye. Ex: The Byron Reed Collection of Important American Coins and Manuscripts (Spink, 10/1996), lot 65. HID06601242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
