1835 $5 HM-2, R.3, MS63 NGC. Green-gold surfaces are heaped with generous and supremely attractive luster. The fields are clean save for a few minute hairlines on the right obverse, which are only detectible on thorough examination, and a handful of shallow nicks on the reverse. Strike is similarly strong on both sides, with only slight weakness present in the shield. A total of 371,534 half eagles were made in calendar year 1835. However, given that many 1834 die marriages were produced after those dated 1835, many of the coins in this figure were dated 1834. The present HM-2 is the second most common die marriage of 1835-dated half eagles, accounting for about a quarter of surviving examples. The reverse die was shared with the 1834 HM-3 and HM-7 die marriages. HID06601242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
