1752 French Colonies Jeton, Betts-384B, Lecompte-112b, AU58 PCGS. While not the same as Bett-384, this variant variety shares a similar history with the piece bearing the coat of arms of the Bellabre family and the Nantes coat of arms. This example displays a deep gray toning around the rims while the interior is a brilliant silver and is free from any debilitating marks. The strike is extremely pleasing for the issue with excellent detail around the native's faces and parting of the waves. Technically this is a Betts unlisted variety as its obverse matches the description of Betts-387 but lacks the accompanying reverse of Betts-386, McDowell within Medals of the Americas, The Betts Companion (1747-1763) has chosen to recategorize this as Betts-384B.
