La Rioja. Rio de la Plata 8 Reales 1837 RA-P MS61 NGC, La Rioja mint, KM20, CJ-38. Tied for the "Top Pop" spot in the NGC census and a lofty six grades higher than the finest at PCGS (AU55), this exceptionally attractive Mint State example of this beloved and sought-after "Sunface" type is sure to draw immense attention. Despite still being unlisted in KM, all known specimens show some evidence of the 1837/6 overdate, as noted by Janson (CJ). On specimens such as the present the evidence is only faint, which in turn would account for the (apparently non-existent) reported 1837 non-overdate variety. Ex.
