Fr. 1242 Milton 1R10.1d 10¢ First Issue Uncut Sheet of Twenty PCGS Gem New 65PPQ. While Fr. 1242 sheets are not prohibitively rare and can be obtained, albeit with some patience, sheets such as our current offering which are in spectacular states of preservation do not often appear publicly. This lovely piece exhibits generous margins, rippling natural paper wave, vivid green and black inks, and complete paper surface originality. The face plate number, 6, is located at center left, and the back plate number, 31st, is also located at center left. Both are in the selvage. We have not auctioned a single Fr. 1242 uncut sheet of 20 notes in a comparable grade to the example in this lot since October 2012. That representative, certified at the PMG 65 EPQ level, garnered $5,287. Fractional sheets of such impressive quality do not often cross our desk, and we could very well see our estimate outdistanced tonight for this delightful rarity. This uncut sheet can trace its provenance back to Lot 987 of the May 2004 auction of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection. A green finger smudge along the back right edge is noticed. From The William S.
