Courtesy Autographed W.A. Julian Fr. 1312 Milton 1R50.4e 50¢ First Issue Uncut Vertical Pair PCGS Banknote About Unc 53 PPQ. A most unusual courtesy autograph is found on this uncut vertical pair of Fractional Notes, that of U.S. Treasurer W.A. Julian, who served decades after this pair of notes was issued. Mr. Julian has courtesy autographed this pretty pair with his initials that travel on an angle and are present on both notes. Julian was Treasurer for the longest period of any of the people who have held that office. His term spanned from June 1, 1933, until May 29, 1949, when Julian died in a car accident in Bethesda, Maryland. This note was signed towards the end of his tenure. In the wide selvage below the bottom note someone has written, "Autographed by W.A. Julian U.S. Treas Jan 29, 1946." This is the annotation mentioned on the PMG back label. This Julian autographed pair is listed as unique in the sixth edition 2000 of the Encyclopedia. It originally resided in the Frank Limpert Collection that was auctioned in September 1955.
