T5 $100 1861 PF-1 Cr. 5 PCGS Banknote Choice About Unc 58 PPQ. The lovely piece in this lot was part of a two note pair produced by the technically illegal SBNCo during the early months of the war. The note offered here, along with its T6 $50 sheetmate, were the first Confederate Treasury Notes emitted after the Confederacy's capital had moved from Montgomery, AL, to Richmond, VA. At left on this high quality piece, Justice presents her scales and sword, at right, a stately Minerva, goddess of war, strategy, and the arts, holds a spear while she gazes to her left, and at center, a steam locomotive races along its tracks. While this stunning example has been punch cancelled six times, it retains great eye appeal. The green "C - HUNDRED - C" protector which completes the design has not oxidized or discolored, and PCGS Banknote has granted the all important PPQ designation.
