Military Endorsement "Maj. W.J. Anderson QM Memphis, TN" T5 $100 1861 PF-1 Cr. 6 PMG About Uncirculated 55. Confederate Secretary of the Treasury Memminger chose the tiny New Orleans branch of the ABNCo to produce $50s and $100s, after federal authorities raided and shut down both National Bank Note Co. and ABNCo. in New York in April, 1861, permanently ending their production of Confederate Treasury Notes and fiscal instruments, The tiny understaffed and underequipped office, using the cover name of Southern Bank Note Co., was overwhelmed by the magnitude of the order and made glacial progress in filling it, producing just 5,798 notes before production was halted in favor of introducing different denominations. This note is endorsed "Issued by me / Sept 21st, (18)61/ Maj W(illiam) J. Anderson / Qr Mr Memphis / Tn." Anderson served as the quartermaster for General Leonidas Polk at this time. The note is well printed with vibrant original colors on bright paper and has decent margins. The lower left corner has been replaced.
