T6 $50 1861 PF-1 Cr. 6 PMG Choice About Unc 58. The Treasury Department pressed the New Orleans branch of the ABNCo into service after federal authorities closed down production at both ABNCo and National Bank Note Co. in New York at the end of April, 1861. In order to provide cover for its New York parent, the ABNCo branch changed the imprint on its notes printed for the Confederacy to the Southern Bank Note Company. The tiny branch office, never equipped to do design or large quantity orders, was overwhelmed and only 5,798 notes were shipped before production ceased. This is an attractive well printed example with excellent colors and decent margins. PMG mentions a small damp stain in the top left margin.
