Progressive Proof Set Series 641 $5 Eight Examples PMG Graded. Completed Front Proof Choice Uncirculated 63, stained; Main Devices Front Progressive Proof Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ; Red Ink Undertint Front Progressive Proof Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ; Blue-Green Ink Undertint Front Progressive Proof Choice Uncirculated 64; Blue Ink Undertint Front Progressive Proof Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ; Completed Back Proof Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ; Blue-Green Ink Undertint Back Progressive Proof Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ; Red Ink Undertint Back Progressive Proof Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. Only two Progressive Proof Series 641 denomination sets are known, with one complete set remaining intact and the second set was broken up as stated on page 53 of the fifth edition of the Comprehensive Catalog of Military Payment Certificates by Fred Schwan and Larry Smulczenski. This eight note Progressive Proof set for the $5 denomination is presumably from the broken up set. Progressive Proofs are sequential test prints used in the printing process to check the accuracy of color and image reproduction. Each Proof example shows the addition of one color layer at a time. This allows for the evaluation of each color's contribution to the final image. It also ensures proper alignment and color balances. Six notes in this lot have earned the EPQ grade modifier.
