Inverted Overprint Error Fr. 2175-L $100 1996 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. The face half sheet of 16 notes was fed into the printer upside down. This San Francisco inverted overprint error in this lot was printed in the E1 sheet position, which is the top note in the second row when the half sheet is fed correctly to the printer. The back label informs us that this is a Tape II variant of this error. The US Error Note Encyclopedia second edition by Stephen M. Sullivan provides the definitive answer for this Type II inverted back. Page 120 relates how a change in standard operating procedures ushered in the Type II errors for inverted overprints with the Series 1974 $50 and $100 FRNs. This change produces a bottom edge cut slightly inside the frame line, while more of the selvage is retained at top in this case. This note's selvage includes an electronic eye bar along the top edge. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
