Fr. 17d $1 1862 Legal Tender PMG Fine 12. One of the old time Large Size rarities, this well circulated but bright piece is characterized by a small red Type 1 Treasury Seal (with no spokes around the shield) which has been printed over the serial numbers at lower left. To date, just six examples of this number have been recorded in the Track & Price Census, with this note being one of two at the Fine 12 level. Of those six, four representatives have attracted impairments of varying degrees, including this note which exhibits several expertly executed tear repairs. Our current offering, however, showcases excellent green overprint color and is evenly margined. This representative is a pleasing piece of a popular but nearly impossible to obtain Friedberg number.
