Fr. 18 $1 1869 Legal Tender PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. The Rainbow Ace in this lot has attained an almost unheard of Gem Uncirculated grade level. When examining the PMG Population Report, one may be led to believe that this grade is fairly obtainable for the type, considering that 25 examples have been encapsulated by PMG for the number at this exact level. When considering that a total of 1,265 Fr. 18 examples have been graded by PMG, however, this belief will rapidly disappear. This wonderful representative exhibits striking blue cotton fiber and green tint colors which contrast with the vibrant red scalloped Treasury Seal at right. On the back, dark green color pairs well with the completely original paper upon which this piece is printed. This resplendent note was last offered by us in our May 2024 CSNS US Currency Signature Auction, where it attained $18,600. As quality examples such as this beauty are appearing less and less frequently on the public market, we could very well see that figure reached again tonight.
