Fr. 63a $5 1863 Legal Tender PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. Our current offering has attained the Gem Uncirculated level, and we are easily able to identify a vast array of desirable traits that this piece displays. Ideal green protector and red overprint ink colors on the face accompany rich green back ink color. These colors are highlighted by lovely serial number and printed signature embossing. In addition to its marvelous color, this piece displays better than normal, overall balanced margins, a rarity considering that many representatives of this type were hastily cut from their sheets. Besides these attributes, completely original paper surfaces are observed, a merit which has contributed to this note's achievement of the EPQ designation. We last auctioned this particular beauty in May 2024, when it brought $7,800. Collectors will find difficulty in obtaining a better representative.
