Fr. 114 $10 1901 Legal Tender PCGS Banknote Gem Unc 66 PPQ. The extremely popular so-called Bison note was a commemorative of sorts, featuring the portraits of Merriweather Lewis and William Clark, leaders of the famous Lewis & Clark Expedition (1804-06) which explored the newly acquired Louisiana Territory and beyond. Their portraits, both engraved by G.F.C. Smillie, as well as a vignette depicting a bison (Pablo), engraved by M.W. Baldwin, appear on the face. The back features the allegorical figure Progress, engraved by G.F.C. Smillie. Bearing a serial number 20214505, Plate A, this note comes from a well known run of notes known to provide very high grade, well preserved, examples and does not disappoint. It is printed on excellent, bright paper with original surfaces and embossing in addition to well matched margins and nice face-to-back registration. All of the colors retain their original vibrant hues. This is a note that will upgrade any collection to which it is added HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
