Fr. 190 $10 1863 Compound Interest Treasury Note PMG Very Fine 25 Net. Compound Interest Treasury Notes were circulating issues that bore 6% interest payable at the end of their three year term. Redemption value of each note was set at $11.94 with the interest table appearing on the back. A total of 92,400 examples of this Friedberg number were issued, and today, only 15 survivors are enumerated in the census, a number which has barely budged in almost a decade. The design features a very heavy bronze surcharge COMPOUND INTEREST / TREASURY NOTE / 10 which tends to oxidize over time and may even lead in extreme cases to paper erosion due to the acidic nature of the bronze used. PMG mentions that the overprint has been redrawn, repaired. There does not appear to be any paper damage and there are still suggestions of the original bronze color of the surcharge overprint. All in all, a very respectable example that is at the top of the PMG Population Report for this Friedberg number. Two other higher grade examples are recorded in the census, both raw notes, which have not been seen in over a quarter of a century.
