1863 1C PR66 PCGS. Snow-PR1. The tan-gold surfaces of this remarkable 1863 Premium Gem proof flash bright yellow-gold and violet colors that contrast wonderfully with the frosty devices. This is a Snow-PR1 die pairing, one of two die marriages from 1863 and the more typical variety encountered. Only 460 proofs were struck as the Civil War raged on and collector-piece mintages dropped. All grades of the 1863 prove challenging, and pieces in Gem or finer are conditionally rare. A lovely proof exhibiting a razor-sharp strike and virtually pristine surfaces. PCGS reports a mere two numerically finer examples in non-Cameo grades (8/26). PCGS Population: 10 in 66, 2 finer (8/26). Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2002), lot 5136. From The West Texas Collection. HID06601242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
