1874 1C PR66 Red PCGS. Snow-PR1. The 1874 Indian cent is scarce as a business strike but nearly unobtainable as a high-grade and original proof, despite a mintage of 700 pieces. This splendid Premium Gem proof is from the only 1874 proof die marriage. The Snow-PR1 dies are identified by an extended line off of the diagonal of the 4 (a defective digit punch) and from the broken D hub, with a bulging right pennant on the T in CENT. Brightly reflective fields display even, red color deepening to cherry-red around the margins. This coin is tied for finest at PCGS in Red non-Cameo grades and only two pieces in PR66 Red Cameo could be considered finer. This Premium Gem proof remains housed in a PCGS generation 2.2 green label holder. PCGS Population: 6 in 66 Red, 0 finer (8/26).
