1860 1C MS67 PCGS. Snow-5. The copper-nickel composition introduced with the Indian cent in 1859 was short-lived and only utilized through early 1864. The second-year 1860 issue consists of two types, with the majority of coins struck switching from the 1859 Pointed Bust design to the Rounded Bust variant. The Rounded Bust 1860 Indian cent outnumbers the Pointed Bust type by about 20 to 1 and it is accessible through the Gem grade level, but finer pieces are challenging and Superb Gem examples are conditionally rare. This Rounded Bust 1860 cent displays evenly dispersed honey-gold and reddish colors on each side. Radiant mint luster is undimmed by the passage of time and the surfaces are unaffected by the smallest abrasions, even under magnification. The coin is sharply struck with excellent eye appeal and the late die state exhibits metal flowlines along the edges especially on the reverse (as struck). This Superb Gem is among the finest certified from the issue, as neither PCGS nor NGC report any numerically finer examples. PCGS Population: 16 in 67 (2 in 67+), 0 finer (8/26). Ex: Santa Clara Signature (Heritage, 11/2002), lot 5202. From The West Texas Collection. HID06601242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
