Barbados Government of Barbados 1 Dollar 1.6.1943 Pick 2b PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. An exceptional example of the Government of Barbados 1 Dollar, this note is tied for the highest grade recorded in the PMG Population Report at time of cataloging from a population of nearly 120 examples. As the lowest denomination in the series, the 1 Dollar would have seen heavy everyday circulation, making its survival at this level of preservation especially remarkable. The front features the portrait of King George VI at right, the first monarch's portrait to appear on Barbados' paper money. His portrait is complemented by a handsome palette of green and brown, giving the note a dignified character. We have previously sold only two notes of this variety at the same grade level, both in 2023. Thus, the limited appearance of examples in such great condition, enhanced by Exceptional Paper Quality, underscores just how rarely this variety is encountered in high grades.
