Belgian Congo Banque du Congo Belge, Leopoldville 100 Francs 3.7.1927 Pick 11c PMG Very Fine 25. This striking note is highly scarce. We have only offered one previous example of this 100 Francs, with the note offered here surpassing it by three grade levels. At time of cataloging, only nine examples are recorded in total in the PMG Population Report, with just one in a higher grade. Corner stains and minor rust are mentioned on the holder, but these do little to diminish the appeal of such a scarce and attractive note. This example was issued by the Banque du Congo Belge for Léopoldville, the colonial name of what would later become Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Interestingly, Kinshasa was the name of a neighboring settlement to Léopoldville and thus can be encountered as another issuing branch on banknotes from this series.
