British North Borneo British North Borneo Company 10 Dollars 1.7.1940 Pick 31 KNB13a PMG Very Fine 25. This marks our first offering of the 10 Dollars denomination from the 1940?1942 series. Our previous offerings of the 1940 date have consisted of the 1 Dollar and 5 Dollar denominations. British North Borneo paper money circulated for only half a century, making it highly sought after by collectors for its scarcity and historical significance. The 1940?1942 series is particularly rare. Following the outbreak of the Second World War, the shipment of 1942-dated notes from Blades, East & Blades Engravers in London was destroyed during the Japanese invasion of Borneo. As a result, collectors can acquire this series in issued form only with a 1940 date, as represented by the example offered here. At time of cataloging, just two examples are recorded in a higher grade in the PMG Population Report, with Very Fine 30 remaining the highest grade known. Minor rust is mentioned on the holder.
