Burma Reserve Bank of India 5 Rupees ND (1937) Pick 1a Jhunjhunwalla-Razack 5.1.1B PMG Choice Very Fine 35. Originally printed for India, this 5 Rupees was among the small number of King George V notes used circulated in Burma in 1937, identified by the prominent red "LEGAL TENDER IN BURMA ONLY" overprints on both sides. The design features a handsome brown, violet, orange, and green palette, and bears the signature of John William Kelly, which appears only on these 1937-dated notes. Its condition is particularly notable, with only six examples recorded in higher grades in the PMG Population Report at time of cataloging. Staple holes and spindle holes at issue are mentioned on the holder, both common features of Indian paper money due to the way notes were bundled by the bank.
