Ceylon POW Camps / Anglo-Boer War, Ragama 10 Cents ND (1899-02) Pick UNL POW4831 PMG Very Fine 25. Rarely seen initial denomination from the second series of paper notes issued in the Ragama POW Camps in 1901 and 1902. The Ragama POW Camps housed Boer Prisoners from the Second Anglo Boer War. Initially, 300 prisoners were sent to Ceylon, with more prisoners following shortly thereafter. There were three series of paper notes issued for prisoners of the Boer War, first used primarily in the Diyatalawa Camp, with the following two used exclusively at the Ragama Camp. This 10 Cents is from the second series overall, and the first to be used at Ragama. The three digit serial number indicates that print totals and issuance were not extensive. The signature of Manager Mackenzie is seen boldly on the front. Splits, tears, and rust are mentioned for accuracy. A historic rarity that appeals to collectors of South African, Ceylon, and wartime banknotes. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
