Ethiopia / Abyssinia Bank of Abyssinia 500 Thalers ND (1915-29) Pick 5s Specimen PMG About Uncirculated 55. This remarkable Specimen combines exceptional scarcity with strong visual appeal. A mere three examples are recorded in total in the PMG Population Report at time of cataloging, making the variety rare in any grade. Only one example is ranked finer than the note offered here; although also graded About Uncirculated 55, it carries an Exceptional Paper Quality designation. The expected perforations and red "CANCELLED" overprints clearly distinguish its Specimen status from that of the issued notes. The design features Emperor Menelik II, who ruled from 1889 to 1913 and is hailed to this day as one of the most prominent rulers in Ethiopia's history. Although printer's annotations and previous mounting are mentioned on the holder, the beautiful purple hues and distinctive ornate design demonstrate why this note is so coveted by collectors.
