France La Banque Royale 50 Livres 1720 Pick A23 PMG Choice Very Fine 35. A fascinating chapter in French financial history, this 50 Livres note was issued by the Banque Royale in its final year. Believing that paper money could stimulate economic growth, the economist and financier John Law established a private bank in France, which later became the Banque Royale. However, excessive note issuance to support the popular purchase of shares led to the bank's collapse, with notes bearing the 'Banque Royale' name produced for only two years. As a result, these notes are incredibly scarce, with the example offered here one of just eleven recorded in the PMG Population Report at time of cataloging. A tear, annotation, and previously mounted are mentioned on the holder. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
