Iran Bank Melli 1000 Rials ND (1934-35 / AH1313-14) Pick 30as Specimen PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. An incredible high grade example of the highest denomination in the 1933?1935 series, this offering combines a desirable condition with a design deeply rooted in Iran's ancient heritage. At time of cataloging, only three examples are recorded in a higher grade in the PMG Population Report, making the note offered here particularly impressive for the type. The front features the finely engraved portrait of Reza Shah Pahlavi, in his distinctive Pahlavi hat, at right. At left is a dramatic scene from a stone relief at Persepolis, which portrays Darius I, commonly known as Darius the Great, defeating mythical monster with a dagger. Darius the Great was the third King of the ancient Achaemenid Empire, reigning from 522 BC until his death in 486 BC. The presence of the two rulers creates a strong visual parallel between the modern Shah and the legacy of ancient Iran. On the back, the Faravahar, a winged emblem associated with Iranian cultural heritage, forms another powerful link to the country's past. This Specimen brings together Achaemenid imagery, the modern Shah, and one of Iran's most recognizable ancient symbols in a beautiful design and with Exceptional Paper Quality. Punch hole cancelled.
