Iran Bank Melli 500 Rials ND (1944) Pick 45s Specimen PMG About Uncirculated 55. This penultimate denomination in the series represents a significant change in design. While the lower denominations of the issue retained the designs of the preceding series when introducing Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi following his father's abdication in 1941, this 500 Rials uses a new back design. The familiar blue and purple hues remain, a view of the ruins at Persepolis is introduced, a vignette not adopted on the preceding issued designs. The scene is beautifully clear on this Specimen, identified by its hole punch cancellations. While minor rust is mentioned on the holder, the note represents a strong state of preservation, with only four notes recorded in higher grades in the PMG Population Report at time of cataloging.
