South Africa East India Company 1 Rix Dollar 19.11.1824 Pick 1 PMG Very Fine 20. While we have previously presented a handful of Rix Dollar Remainders, this marks the first time we have offered an issued Rix Dollar of any denomination at auction. Adding to its significance, this is the first note listed for the series in the Standard Catalogue of World Paper Money. Printed in an usual vertical format, the simple design bears the symbol of a seated Britannia, reflecting British administration of the Cape at the time. The rarity of this issued note is astounding, with a mere three examples recorded in total in the PMG Population Report at time of cataloging. Splits are mentioned on the holder, but such condition issues are understandable for an issued note just shy of two centuries in age. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
