Apalachicola, FL- Commercial Bank of Florida $20 Post Note 18__ Remainder G38 Benice 23 PMG Very Fine 25. The territorial legislative council approved the incorporation of this bank over the governor's veto on February 7, 1833. In 1837, the bank's ownership changed hands with the new owner fleeing town with the bank's assets less than three weeks after taking over. Although the assets were returned, the bank was never on a sound footing and mercifully closed its doors soon thereafter. This post note remainder, with legitimate signatures of William Patrick and J.C. Maclay, was laid out so that it suggested that it might be somehow associated with the Bank of the United States in Philadelphia. As with notes of that Pennsylvania institution, portraits of important American personages lined both end panels. PMG mentions a number of stains which are not overly distracting on this example that served as the plate note in the Benice Florida catalog. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
