Apalachicola, FL- Bank of West Florida $10 18__ G60 Benice 13 Remainder PMG Choice Very Fine 35. On November 17, 1829, the bank's establishment was approved by Florida Territorial Legislature, and it operated from Marianna until February 12, 1832, when the branch it had founded in Apalachicola became the parent bank's new location. After failure and attempted reorganization in 1837, it closed for good in 1842. This attractive $10 features a portrait of George Washington at left which complements a depiction of Liberty seated with her pole and cap at center and various 1799 and 1800 silver dollars at right. This piece served as the plate note on page 47 of Ron Benice's Florida Paper Money: An Illustrated History 1817-1934 book. PMG comments on evidence of a previous mounting.
