Ascension (Donaldsonville), LA- Parish of Ascension 50¢ Dec. 24, 1861 PMG Fine 12. Ascension Parish was strategically located on the Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge and was under Union observation/control more or less continuously from August 1862 to the end of the war. This note bore 3% interest from the date of issue and was redeemable in three year 8% $50 parish bonds. The note is printed on the back of a document that was headlined ".... of America".
