T6 $50 1861 PF-1 Cr. 6 PMG Fine 12. This type and a companion $100 were rushed into production by the tiny New Orleans branch office of ABNCo after Federal authorities shut down Confederate-destined production on April 25, 1861 in New York at the National Bank Note Co. and ABNCo. plants. The tiny New Orleans branch was overwhelmed and struggled to design and deliver these notes with the first notes being issued from Richmond on August 27, 1861, the day before this note was issued. Only 5,798 notes were issued before production ceased. This note saw extended time in circulation but survived the experience without attracting any repairs or meaningful impairments.
